Basically, resveratrol activates a "survival" gene that makes your body better able to fight off disease. That same gene is activated by reducing your caloric intake by 1/3 or more and people have been doing that for decades.
Dr. Sinclair is the person that discovered the link between the survival gene and resveratrol. I believe he made the discovery in 2002. If you research his name you can find a lot of info, including videos about his early work.
